Q1: What is Lailatul Qadar?

It is the night when doors of the heavens are opened and the skies send down blessing and forgiveness. It is the night when the angels descend from the heavens and timeless blessings are granted from Allah (SWT).

It is the night when the devils are locked away and the devils are prevented from descending to earth. It is the night when Allah (SWT)’s mercy overflows. It is a night when the believers’ actions are raised to the highest level. It is a night when the sins of the believers are removed, when their hearts are purified and when their ranks are raised. Lailatul Qadar is more important than the whole year.

Lailatul Qadar is the night of the decree, or the night of power. This is one of the odd nights mentioned in the Quran. These are special designated nights when the angels descend to earth with the decree of what is going to happen in the next year. These are the only nights when Allah will answer all the prayers that are made during that night.

Q2: Why is this night held in high regard?

For a lot of people, the idea of fasting for a whole month can be quite daunting. This is because it is a big challenge to give up food and drink for a whole month, especially when it is hot outside and lots of people are used to drinking lots of water during the day.

However, this month is not like any other month in terms of the rewards for those who fast. Allah says in the Qur'an: "For those who can fast only with great difficulty, there is a way to compensate – for every day of fasting missed, feed one poor person." (Qur'an 2:184).

The month of Ramadhan is extremely important in the Islamic calendar. One of the most celebrated nights in Ramadhan is the Laylatul Qadr. It is said to be the night on which the Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad.

It is also the night when the first verse of the Holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad, who was at the time, meditating in a cave. It is said that it was during this night that the first verses of the Holy Qur’an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad. The Holy Qur’an has several verses that have been revealed during the Laylatul Qadr.

Q3: What is Israa wal Me'raj?

In the annals of Islamic history, this night has been singled out as the night of Al-Isrā’ wal-Mi’rāj, when the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was taken by Al-Rabī’ūr-Raḥīm (the Exalted Creator) on a spiritual journey from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Farthest Mosque in Jerusalem, and then to the heavens above and below.

The Farthest Mosque is believed to be the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the third holiest site in Islam. The Isra and Mi’raj journey is one of the most significant miracles attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

Israa and Mi'raj are the two parts of Prophet Muhammad’s journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and then to heaven. Israa refers to the Prophet (s.a.w)’s journey from Makkah to Jerusalem on a winged mule on the night of the 27th of Rajab.

Mi'raj refers to Prophet Muhammad’s (s.a.w) ascension to heaven on the night of the 27th of Rajab. According to sayings of the Prophet (s.a.w), Mi'raj was the night when he was taken from the Sacred Mosque in Makkah to the Farthest Mosque – which Muslims identify with the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

During this journey, the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) met with several previous Prophets - Musa, Isa and Ibrahim - who gave him religious instructions. The Prophet (s.a.w) also met with several other prophets and holy figures.

Q4: How to observe the Night of Power and be blessed in life?

Allah has blessed us with many gifts. But of all the gifts He has bestowed upon us, the greatest of them all is the holy month of Ramadan. The blessings of Ramadan, however, extend far beyond just fasting and praying.

To be blessed in Ramadan is to be blessed forever. The Night of Power is arguably one of the most important nights of Ramadan. Some of the greatest rewards for those who perform good deeds on this night are reserved for those who observe it with true faith and sincerity.

The Night of Power is a night of special blessings and are a period of mercy, forgiveness, and tranquility. It is also a night of forgiveness, mercy, and blessings. Allah says in the Qur'an: "That is the night of the decree. And what will explain to you what the night of the decree is? It is the night when it is stillest The night when it is stillest! And your Lord comes with angels and the angels ranked in order.

Your Lord comes with angels and the angels ranked in order. And on that night the Spirit and the angels – all in succession – descend. That is the night of the decree. Indeed, We have decreed it for the worshipers." [Al-Qur'an 97:1-5]

The Night of Qadr is a night beyond the comprehension of the human mind. It is a night of tremendous importance and worthiness to be observed by all. This night is the most important night of the year and is often referred to as the “Night of Power”.

It is the night that angels descend with the decree of Allah. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said: “The Night of Power is the Night of Destiny, and its sign is that all the things are forgiven.” [Muslim]

Q5: How to spend the Night of Power?

Ramadan is a month of blessings and mercy from Allah. It is a great opportunity to get closer to Allah, to purify one’s soul and to gain the forgiveness of Allah. It is the month when all the gates of the heaven are opened and all the gates of Allah are closed.

The reward for each good deed is increased ten-fold during this blessed month. On the other hand, the punishment for each bad deed is also increased ten-fold. Therefore, every good deed done in this month is worth ten good deeds done at any other time of the year.

The reward for each good deed could be a better place in Paradise. It could be an increase in one’s sustenance, it could be a cure for one’s illness, or it could be the fulfillment of one’s wishes. On the other hand, the punishment for each bad deed could be an increase in one’s hardship in this world, in the world-after, or it could be a loss of one’s money or property.

This night is the single most important night of the year. It is the night when the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by the Angel Gabriel. It is the night when the first chapter of the Qur’an, Al-Fatihah, was revealed to the Prophet. On this night, the gates of heaven are opened and the gates of Allah are closed; and great rewards are given to those who spent the night in worship and the best of prayer is the prayer in the middle of the night.
